The Ancient Olympic Games

The ancient Olympic games were formed in ancient Greece where the Greeks held contests in honor of their gods. There were 3 types of olympic games, the first is called The Isthmos games which were staged every two years, second The Pythian games which were staged every four years, and The most known The Olympic games which were held every 4 years in honor of the Greek God Zeus.
The Olympic Games started in early 700 B.C. During the Olympics many games were played. One was wrestling which was one of the most popular sport the men. The way to win the match was to throw your opponent three times by forcing him out the ring or the force him to surrender. Another sport was boxing which started in 336 B.C.E. Instead of gloves they wore wet leather thongs wrapped around their hands to fight. Running was also a sport in the Olympics which had had many events, racing in armor around a 192 meter track, stadium racing with the same length track, and Doichos racing. Also Chariot Racing was the most dangerous sport during the Olympics. The object was to race around the stadium seven times, with two to four horses. Forty racers were able to race at a time making it very dangerous. Now this sport doesn't exsist. Also horse racing was a sport during the Olympics. The lengh of the race was about 1200 meters. While racing the Jockeys would race while naked make many inguries. There were many other sports in The Ancient Greek Olympics. But these are some of the sports we do today. At the end of the Olympics winners would get a statue of themselves, a Olive Wreat, Palm tree Branches, and wooden ribbions. Also many other prizes were given o them.
